Courses and Conferences: workshops and presentations
State of Play provides a range of practical workshops for teachers and others on making practice more creative and effective.
‘Drama and the Creative Curriculum’ was a practical workshop led by Tony Horitz & Sharon Muiruri.
It explored drama’s role as a creative hook for enriching children’s development as learners and as a holistic discipline.
Through a story framework, linked to some popular history and environmental topics in the curriculum, delegates will learn about powerful and effective techniques such as Dorothy Heathcote’s Mantle of the Expert. This involves giving children a significant fictional status before undertaking a project, challenging to them to rise to the highest standards of speaking and listening, literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills. Such dramatic approaches also stimulate intense learning about emotional literacy.
