State of Play is seeking one female and three male actors for roles in a theatre production to take place in March, 2019. The production is based on research about people who lived in East Dorset after Armistice Day, during 1919/20.
The project has been commissioned by Priest’s House Museum, Wimborne, as part of the museum’s ‘The One Hundred Year Heritage of the First World War for Wimborne and East Dorset’project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The performances will take place in March in Wimborne, Dorset.
We require
4 actors to play the following characters in 1919/20:

- Samuel Durrent, (age 35 – 45 years), ex-able seaman, blinded; please note: we favour applications from blind or visually impaired actors for this role.
We are looking for actors who are strong, focused performers, able to deliver dramatic monologues and learn lines quickly. You will also be good at improvising on a theme, as some of the performance may involve spontaneous interaction with the audience. Ability to sing essential. Ability to play instrument non-essential but desirable.
You’ll need to be interested in history and prepared to do some research on your character and their context, and be a good team player, prepared to try new ways of working.
For the audition you will need to prepare a short (1-2 minute) monologue of your choice as well as perform an extract from the script we send in advance. You won’t need to learn this by heart, though familiarity with it will help.
